Since the inception of this course I was awakened by the variety of technology that exists out there. I have heard others speak of it but to really learn about it and see the many uses of web 2.0 is just incredible. I remember the first night after class I discussed with my husband some of the things we had scheduled to learn and he was just as eager to learn about web 2.0. My brother who is also a teacher was also intrigued by some of the things that I mentioned to him as well. Every week I inform them both about my newly acquired web 2.0 knowledge.
Technology is a teacher all by itself. At present, I am teaching my three year old son the letter sounds with a great interactive website that my dear friend Shasta revealed to me. It’s just so much fun we both have together. He has some trouble to move the cursor but with practice he will manage it quite well. My seven month old baby loves to hear the sounds as well. Technology is not just for adults but for all.

our technology has exceeded our humanity."

Rehana I share your excitement about the Web 2.0 technology.I have shared it with my children and my seven year old son has completed two concept maps about things that interest him .The second map he did all on his own using the rapid fire!It made me realise that I have no excuse to be intimidated by the use of this technology. His interest and quick application of the instructions also demonstrated to me how this technology would motivate student participation and reading development.I can hardly wait for the next term to get our school on board with this.
ReplyDeleteHana, I am glad you found the site to be helpful and I totally agree when you say that technology is a teacher. About a year ago I was teaching English to some none english speakers and I knew I had a huge task at hand. These children lived in China, Japan and other countries that I can't seen to remember. In their previous schools, the computer was the centre of learning so I had to make learning fun for them yet ensure they learnt to speak english. The website was amazing, with my guidance they learnt the letters of the alphabet, the sounds, syllabication and the list can go on and on. Technology is a great learning tool and I would recommend it any day.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I too have been awakened from my slumber by the variety of technology that exists out there. “There just so cool” according to my daughter and son. I have to admit though I have been using some of it like face book, twitter but I would not have thought about using it to educated people. I too have instant messages, skype and other communication tools' set up with my kids and close friends but again just for friends. My eyes have been opened to the various possibilities. I guess I took the blue pill (The Matrix).Technology is a term referring to whatever can be said at any particular historical period, concerning the state of the art in the whole general field of practical know-how and tool use. It therefore encompasses all that can be said about arts, crafts, professions, applied sciences, and skills from dictionary.com. This generation in my opinion is wired for it. I can engage my class for 30 minutes and more just talking about cell phones. It a really good thing that your exposing your son. I'm sure he will start showing you stuff soon...
ReplyDeleteHey Rehana,
ReplyDeleteplease give me the website. I too will use it with my son. I must say i share your enthusiasm. Technology can seem so daunting at first, but it's 'a piece of cake' once you become familiar with it. I'm actually not running away from class, and am staying because we're always learning something new. If anything, this couse has taught me, what I need to do to keep my kids continuously interested!!! :-)
Hi Nikiesha the site is www.starfall.com.
ReplyDeleteIt's a highly interactive website that focuses on the alphabet and numeracy. Just great fun for our little adventure seekers. Technology develops our children's intellect and creativity. Every morning and evening I have him on the site. In addition to viewing and interacting with the information on the site, I also use realia and the magnetic letters of the alphabet to reinforce the concepts he learnt.
Have fun teaching for the holidays!
Andy and Sheldon using this technology with your kids is just great. Hope I can remember it all by the time my kids get older but I am sure by then there will be newer programmes and they may have to educate me.
Shasta thanks again for the site.
